German Posters

Autumn has arrived rather suddenly at RIT. The weather has gotten very cold and rainy – there was even hail the other day. I’m disappointed that such a nice summer is now finally at an end as identifiable by the transition to Rochester Winter (since winter here really lasts about October-April). Classes are stressful. And fast-moving. (more…)

QTVR

The past two weeks we’ve been working on a little exercise in perspective montage, making “public announcement” postcards. The style is similar to They Might Be Giants’ postcards from five years ago or whenever. (I have copies of them, but they’re not available anymore… it’s weird to realize that I’m an old enough fan to have (more…)

Polite Distance

I’ve recently noticed that I’m receiving the benefit of the door holding effect here at RIT, which I find amusing. A certain amount of the time, it has actually been extended ridiculously far beyond the 2-foot range, into the 15-20 foot range. No cars here have changed to the other side of the street to get a closer look at me yet though (more…)

Sea Legs

All in all, it hasn’t been a bad start to the year (other than the whole having-to-get-my-feet-under-me homework thing). Classes and work are promising, I’m taking some stuff that’s been hanging around since freshman year in hand, I’m trying to spend more time visiting with friends and being generally more social. And most of all, (more…)

RIT: Hit the Ground Running

Tai Chi on Wednesday night was cool. Very different from the Tai Kwon Do I did as a kid, but I like it so far, it’s a lot more (more…)

First day of my last year

At least I hope; there were a couple of last year’s seniors in the back of Adam’s class yesterday afternoon…

First day of classes’ verdict: not as bad as I expected. The music class was more interesting and less focused strictly on music than I was expecting, since the teacher also talked a little about history and visual (more…)

Our Beautiful Campus

First off, you should note the sarcasm as I write the title for this post. RIT may be tolerably nice right now, while the weather is good and the breeze is cooling rather than frigid, but in a few months, it’s going to be a brick windtunnel filled with rain and snow. Besides this, cynicism is like our national flavor here at RIT. Freshman find this really depressing, but by the time you finish your (more…)
