Sea Pinnacles Observatory

A digital painting I’ve been working on in a kind of Myst Age style. I have no idea what’s going on logically there. Why is there an observatory dome and an enormous satellite dish? What are they studying there? And what is up with those rocks? In good concept art fasion, I’m trying not to let it bother me too much. Not succeeding too well. I hope that if I ever get around to drawing this sort of thing more regularly, I’ll start with more of a realistic plan as to what is going on, from the ground up, before I get going. A good Age needs a solid foundation, not like that stuff Gehn wrote… apparently I am just as bad!

After Mysterium though, I feel more inspired about drawing Ages – maybe one of these days I will be able to update the one lone concept drawing in my portfolio with something I did since graduating college…

Well, maybe Gehn *did* write this Age, and you simply captured its decline – an example of how not to write.

You’re certainly right: that would explain why these pinnacles are all that remain of the coastline – the rest of the land probably sank – and it makes a good reason to have an observatory there. And while I was working on it, I kept thinking it looked rather like Gehn’s Age 233 laboratory.
