Cologne Christmas

I had a good holiday trip to Germany for the purpose of seeing Patrick for Christmas and New Year. We got a fair bit done. We went to see a little circus by someone who used to work with Cirque du Soleil, which was very nice with its live music and acrobatics and so on. There were a lot of children in the audience which we enjoyed watching as they climbed on their fathers for a better view or played in the fake snow on stage during the intermission. Happiness

Since probably around October, I feel like I’ve been learning to be more happy overall. On a day-to-day basis, I may have plenty of grumpy days or be lonely or unhappy, but over longer periods of time I feel like I’m gradually getting better at living happily. Sort of like climate change making our planet warmer, though we may not notice it on a daily basis? (more…)

My Favorite Movies

Like everybody else, I have some movies I love and can watch over and over again. Now I will inflict you with my opinions about them!

  • V for Vendetta: This movie is basically the perfect storm of my favorite elements in a movie. There is badass fighting, beautiful cinematography, characters with backstories, breathtaking charismatic writing, and a little romance. Then there are some (more…)

Motherly Visit

A week ago (hey, time after the work day is precious, I keep forgetting to update when I do have stuff to say!) my mom came to visit me on her way forward to the trail. In case you haven’t been following her Trail Journal, she’s been hiking the Appalachian trail since January. She started in Georgia, but fell and fractured her wrist while hiking with my dad on a ridgetop in a storm in Virginia, and had to (more…)

German TV

Lately I’ve been watching some German TV shows to keep up my language skills. My favorite so far is “Heute-Show” from the ZDF channel, which has the same premise as the Daily Show – political news review.
