Things have been quiet around here while I look for a job. The weather hasn’t even been all that good for taking pictures. So I have some silly things for you.
Quick post: I’m back at my parents’ in Illinois, jet lagged and disoriented from 20+ hours of travel. I have a bunch of half-written blog posts that I need to sort out before I can post them (not to mention IRL things like doing my taxes, catching up on my health checkups, and looking for a job). Thursday opened the Karneval celebration proper in Cologne. Several of my coworkers took Thursday and Friday off, either to spend more time celebrating or to run away from the city-wide party. Things have been quite busy lately, between preparing the annual report design project at work – which has been occupying whole days for me – and searching for a new flat before my current lease runs out. I took the train up to Berlin on the 25th to stay with Janine’s family. My train was cancelled, which made things exciting, and I finally got in around 11pm, and between the cold and the long day, I was pretty happy to hear Janine’s mom had some delicious duck leftovers ready for me. Since Germans primarily do their celebrating on the 24th, I can now cross “Christmas in Germany” from my list of things to do in my life. Although I had some doubts at the start of the month, I would say that I’ve done pretty well in celebrating the holiday. (more…)
