Friends in Chicago

Last weekend, I was up in Chicago for a successful interview and visiting with my friends in the area. It was a great opportunity to catch up with some people I haven’t seen in a while – and some person I haven’t seen in years! All around a pretty awesome visit. I also took pictures of Wickett, famously an ewok on Buzzfeed, although I no longer know where the link to that particular photo is. There are new photos now though! (more…)

In A Gallery

One of the photographers I did that practice modeling shoot with in the fall is, to my surprise, exhibiting some of the photos at the Image City Gallery in Rochester (very close to Starry Nites cafe) March 25 through April 20, 2014. Apparently my “legs have made it big time,” according to the photographer, Gil Maker. If you feel inclined, stop by and see those photos as well as the great student work being exhibited! I gather there is a reception Friday night. (more…)

Violin Photos 2

In my quest to get better at portraits with artificial lighting, I decided, at the urging of my photo group co-conspirators, to re-shoot the photos of Tyler with his violin, but with a few changes. Their main complaints had been that the background needed something going on, and that I needed to focus more on the relationship between him and his violin. It seemed that I was close enough on the (more…)

FirstLight Players Script Reading

December 1 was the first read-through of the script for Firstlight Players’ 2014 production. The production will be the musical “Death Takes A Holiday,” performances the fourth weekend in March, at the First Unitarian Church of Rochester. It’s pretty exciting, since I’m in the Ensemble and several of my friends are also going to be involved with the show – plus new ones I’m sure I’ll be making! (more…)

Monkeying Around

Last month I did a photo shoot of a friend’s two kids to capture their monkeying around for her holiday cards. After establishing where they would feel most comfortable, we went out on a nice warm sunny afternoon to Highland Park and the kids proceeded to show me their favorite climbing trees. Keeping up with two kids climbing trees in order to take their portraits is hard work! (more…)

Modeling books

I got to be a model again recently, which was pretty fun. After seeing my high school librarian’s post on Facebook about stock photos with women pointedly not reading the books in their photos, it was perhaps forefront in my mind that I should not look like a complete ditz with my book. I was quite excited to bring the old bilingual book of German poetry I was recently given by a friend’s mother – (more…)

Violin Photos

Since borrowing more sturdy lighting equipment from Steve of the Saturday photo group, I got a chance to take more portraits. Unfortunately, the concept I had wanted to photograph really didn’t work out – in fact, I’m not even going to share a single attempt in that direction. But photographing Tyler with his violin was pretty fun all the same, and I think some of the photos came out well, even if they weren’t conforming to the intention of the shoot. (more…)

Dramatic Portraits

Continuing my efforts to get better at taking portraits, my friend Tyler came over this weekend having volunteered himself to be a model. I was very excited to have gotten tethered shooting working so I could photograph and immediately see the results in Lightroom – which helped him see what was going on too, without interrupting (more…)
