I enjoy the German language and all its silly, literal, über-logical composition of words. Even better is when it is being sung in really goofy music videos. Here is a collection of favorites of mine. (more…)
While I was home with my family, we decided to go see Star Trek: Into Darkness. Although I was glad to see a movie with my family, and the movie was very … shiny, I didn’t care for it much. I want to enumerate the reasons why! Lots of spoilers. TL;DR, Stargate Universe, which I’ve been watching lately, strikes me as more Star Treky than this movie. Ask me how. <rant> (more…)
I mentioned in passing that I’m learning a new song – “Blue Boat Home” by Peter Mayer – for my singing lessons. I love the song, it’s probably one of my favorite Unitariany songs, though admittedly the version I’m familiar with is Priscilla Herdman‘s cello-heavy arrangement. To help me learn to sing more expressively, my teacher asked me to remember the song is poetry, and to “write a (more…)
I’m going to break this up into two posts, today and tomorrow. So, on to my freelance project for a startup called Twake. (more…)
Lately I’ve been watching some German TV shows to keep up my language skills. My favorite so far is “Heute-Show” from the ZDF channel, which has the same premise as the Daily Show – political news review. Sadly, Heute-Show is only once a week, but the great commentary on the country’s politicians (more…)
I went to see Harry Potter 7 part 1 last night, which I was excited about even though I knew it would not be all that awesome. I was rather disappointed that despite being promised by my coworkers that there would be lots of people dressed up, I only saw a handful of people with Harry Potter glasses and scars much less anything serious. As anyone who pays attention to Star Trek culture knows, one of the most important debates ever is which captain is the best. So here are my views on this matter. Also I am expanding it to “people in charge of space vessels on TV” since Nate always complains when the people I like are not technically captains. (more…)
